Star-onomy
Today I explained to my student
the meaning of the word
ASTRONOMY
— a brief explanation at the pause
in a story
although I wished
to say so much more. About stars.
The suggestion (commandment?)
to count them …. analogous to
numbering the promises of a
Maker who flings uncountable
stars systems skyward
almost as an afterthought.
I wished to
tell my pupil all the stories
centered on stars, if only I knew
them. But in a way, stars
are perhaps a part
of every story. Such a
tale might have no end. Akin
to the expanding universe, endless
stars, each known by name.
