Poem a Day Challenge April 5 Prompt: Take the phrase "Tell (blank)," replace the blank with a new word or phrase, make the new phrase the title of your poem, and then, write your poem.
Tell me the stories once more
Tell me the tales are true
I want to believe the end of it all
will be better than we ever knew
Show me those shadowing threads
That darken the blanket of sky
That loom like a billowing cauldron of dread
When hope is in dwindling supply
Dig with me in the ground
Sifting treasures out of the soil
Wrench weeds from this heart, a dollar a pound
Learn the meaning of meaningless toil
Practice picturing possibilities
And watch them dwindle to sorrow
Steep tea in 600 tired decrees
And wake all hungover tomorrow
Pull promises out of a parlor hat
Rabbits multiply, then disappear
Myth fringes the horizon in glow
When will all that is hazy grow clear?
Tell me once more the tales I knew
The myth now with history merged
I believe the stories are good and are true
And those seeds from the ground will emerge
