Today's prompt: write a minimum poem. “When writing your minimum poem, you could write a super short form like a senryu or craft a one-sentence poem. And well, that's just the minimum of minimum-related topics out there. Expend at least the minimum amount of effort, and I'm sure you'll come up with a fun minimum poem.”
The Least We Can Do
It’s only one cat, and look at him, how thin. He must
be so hungry. It’s the least we can do to leave some food out.
See? He’s gaining weight. A lot of weight. Oh …
Her three kittens might be feral now, but given
enough time, they’ll tame. Meantime, we leave out
food. The least we can do. We’re just feeding four.
Well, how was I supposed to know they were female? And how
do cats have litters that young? Four plus two plus three.
Seriously? Another litter?
We’ll fix them. Rehome them. And aren’t they so cute? At
minimum, we’re feeding eight. Why does no one want kittens right now?
Well, that took months, trips to and from the vet, eight kittens and cats
vacced, fixed, and finally, most rehomed.
What? You can’t keep him after all? No worries, we’ll take him back.
What’s another cat among our four? I mean, five.
Hey, check it out. Out the window. She’s the one that started this
all. I haven’t seen her in ages. She looks kinda chunky.
Still, I should put out some food. It’s the least I can do.
